VICTORIA DE PURITO Y SIGUE LÍDER
AGUANTÓ HESJEDAL Y ASTANA SE QUEDÓ FUERA

Ha finalizado la decimosexta etapa del Giro d´Italia con la victoria número 100 para españoles en la ronda italiana. La etapa de hoy era calificada como de alta montaña y es la primera de las tres etapas reinas en las que se decidirá el Giro. Hoy se subían 4 puertos y entre ellos el Passo Duron y el Passo Jeau, de primera categoría.

La etapa de hoy comenzó loca con muchos ataques y escapadas que al final se quedó en una escapada compuesta por Matteo Rabottini, Branislau Samoilau, Kevin Seeldrayers, Montaguti y Serpa. A estos se unió Mikel Nieve que atacó de lejos. Más tarde el gran ritmo impuesto por Liquigas alcanzó a los escapados y fue reduciendo el grupo principal hasta el punto de que dejaron incluso a Roman Kreuziger que se despidió de la victoria final.

Al final se llegó al último puerto de la jornada con el grupo final que quedó con los grandes favoritos, Joaquim Rodríguez, Ryder Hesjedal, Ivan Basso, Rigoberto Uran, Michele Scarponi y Domenico Pozzovivo. Un buen Ivan Basso cogió el comando del grupo imponiendo un ritmo fuerte pero fue un bravo Hesjedal el que hizo el primer intento pero no resultó, más tarde Pozzovivo se puso líder para coger los puntos de la montaña y fue cuando Scarponi se quedó y Uran también perdió un poco de terreno. En la bajada se aguantó la posición y Scarponi con todos los problemas del mundo consiguió coger a Uran y a su vez al grupo líder, ya se habían vuelto a juntar. En el llano final lo intentó Basso con un ataque pero no pudo ser, el de Liquigas hizo un buen sprint pero un gran `Purito´ llegó desde atrás para conseguir su segunda victoria en este Giro 2012 y mantener el liderato en la clasificación general.

El segundo grupo llegó a 1:22 y la sorpresa fue el otro gallo de Astana, Paolo Tiralongo que perdió un montón de tiempo.

Mañana 24 de Mayo será día de recuperación y ocasión para los sprinters de lograr la última victoria de la ronda italiana. El viernes y el sábado serán los días en los que se debe marcar diferencias con etapas de más de 5.500 metros de desnivel.

It has finalised the 16th stage of the Giro d´Italia with victory number 100 for Spanish in the Italian round. The stage of today was described as high mountain and is the first of the three stages Queens that will decide the Giro. Today climbed 4 ports including Passo Duron and Passo Jeau, first class.

A good Ivan Basso took command of the Group imposing a strong pace but was a bravo Hesjedal who made the first attempt but was not, later Pozzovivo was leading to pick up the points of the mountain and was when Scarponi stayed and Uran also lost a bit of ground. In the descent held the position and Scarponi with all the problems of the world managed to catch Uran and turn to the leading group, they had already become together. On the final flat Basso tried with an attack but could not be, of Liquigas did a good sprint but a great ' Purito´ came from behind for his second victory in this 2012 Giro and maintain the lead in the overall standings.

The second group arrived at 1: 22 and the surprise was another Rooster of Astana, Paolo Tiralongo, who lost a lot of time.
